MC Strip is a acid activated methylene chloride paint stripper. It is only used at ambient temperatures. It will quickly and completely strip paint from metal. It is effective on paint fixtures. It is a good alternative to abrasive blasting since it causes no damage to the surface of most metals. It can be used to strip aluminum alloy wheels and other auto restoration applications. It removes epoxy, E-coats and UV cure coatings.
Use
It should be used at full strength with an optional water seal. A water seal will decrease the loss of product through evaporation. The water seal should be a minimum of one inch and be a maximum of 10% of the height of the tank. This product is for immersion only. Agitation should not be used.
It is used in immersion tanks. It is recommended for use on steel and aluminum. It is not recommended fro use on zinc or magnesium surfaces. It should never be used in a spray operation. The residual from the stripped paint should be removed periodically. This can be easily accomplished by using a steel or stainless steel screen. The stripped surfaces should be rinsed thoroughly with a high pressure spray to remove loose paint and residual chemical.
Tanks can be made from steel, stainless steel, or polypropylene. It will dissolve or soften many plastic and polymenric materials so can should be taken with any valves or processing equipment.
In order to prevent flash rusting, stripping should be followed by immersion in an alkaline rinse.
Cautions
MC Strip is a methylene chloride product. Methylene chloride is classified as a carcinogen. Extreme caution should be taken to minimize exposure to this product. Protective equipment and good ventilation must be used at all times. It can cause serious skin burns. It has no flash point however hazardous fumes will be created if it is exposed to flame.
Advantages
It has a long bath life. It is fast evaporating. Does not leave a waxy residue on the surface of the metal.
Disposal
This product is a acidic material that contains methylene chloride. It may not be discharged into any sanitary sewers or septic systems.
